Perpetual WIPs: Self-Published Authors

Welcome to Perpetual WIPs, and thank you for checking it out! To see what it’s all about, read this post first: Am I Normal?

PerpetualWIPsSelfPublishedAuthorsClick on the question to see the answers provided by the wonderful self-published authors who contributed!

How did you come to the decision to self-publish, and what category/genre do/would you do it for?

Do you have an agent, and/or do you have plans to pursue traditional publishing as well? If so, how do you balance the two, and how do you decide what to self-publish and what to sub?

What platform, vendors, and promotional items did you use? About how much did you spend, and how, and how would you break it down differently the next time around, if at all?

What promotional/publicity tactics did you find worked best for you? Which did you find less helpful?

How long was your blog tour, and who organized it? What kinds of blog tour posts did you find people responded to particularly well?

How did you go about getting reviews, early or otherwise, for your work?

What research resources, online or otherwise, did you find the most helpful?

What kinds of sales expectations did you have, and how did your actual sales compare?

What have been the best parts of self-publishing?

What have been the worst parts of self-publishing?

What would you tell people considering doing it, whether as a hybrid author or a solo path? What do you wish you’d been told before making the decision?

Would you do it again? Why or why not?
