Perpetual WIPs: Querying Writers

Welcome to Perpetual WIPs, and thank you for checking it out! To see what it’s all about, read this post first: Am I Normal?

PerpetualWIPsQueryingClick on the question to see the answers provided by the wonderful querying writers who contributed to this project!

How many queries do you usually send out at a time? What’s the thought process behind your strategy?

How many manuscripts did you query before the one you’re querying now? If it’s not your first, has your target agent list changed, and if so, based on what factors?

What are your feelings on participating in contests, and what are your favorite kinds?

Assuming you’ve revised your query at least once, what was weak about the original that caused you to make changes?

What do you think is more brutal – a form rejection or a no-response-is-no?

How does an agent’s social media presence affect your decision to query that agent, if at all?

How important do you think building your own social media presence is as part of the querying process?

How do you envision your dream agent-client relationship?

If you got “the call” right now, what would you ask?

What are the best and worst comments you’ve gotten in rejections?

Outside of actual agent responses to your query, what during the process have you found the most uplifting? The most disheartening?

Got a question I didn’t ask but that you’d love to see answered? Please leave it in the comments!
